← Guitar Tools
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 August 2026.
Guitar Tools is a guitar note and chord trainer. Most of it needs no
account and sends nothing anywhere: the exercises run in your
browser, and your practice statistics stay on your device. This page
covers the parts that do involve a server — creating an account and
donating — and what that means for your data.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Guitar Tools is an individual, non-commercial project developed by
Paolo Fronda. For anything on this page — questions, access
requests, corrections, complaints — write to
frondapaolodeveloper@gmail.com.
2. Using the app without an account
Nothing is required to use any of the four exercises. Your practice
statistics (attempts, correct and wrong answers, response times) and
your preferences (language, tuning, neck orientation, and so on) are
kept only in your browser's local storage, under your control, on
your device. None of it is sent anywhere. Clearing your browser's
site data removes it completely.
The app sets no cookies and loads no analytics, advertising, or
tracking script of any kind, whether or not you have an account.
3. Creating an account (optional)
Signing in is only needed to keep your statistics beyond one device.
Registering asks for an email address and a password. Both are
handled entirely by our backend provider, Supabase — the app itself
never sees or stores your password; Supabase stores it hashed, not
in plain text, and sends the confirmation email. Once signed in, a
session token is kept in your browser's local storage so you stay
signed in between visits; it is not a cookie and is removed when you
sign out.
Once you have an account, the same statistics that were local-only
are also kept on the server, linked to your account: attempts,
correct and wrong answers, and response times, broken down by
exercise and by note or chord. Nothing beyond that — no name, no
address, no data about your device — is asked for or stored.
The database enforces, independently of the app's own code, that an
account can only ever read or write its own rows.
4. Donating (optional)
Premium (the timed challenge and full statistics charts) is unlocked
by a donation through Ko-fi, not by a purchase in the app. Ko-fi
processes your payment under its own privacy policy — we never see
your card or payment details. Ko-fi notifies us of the donation with
your email address and the amount given, which we keep in order to
grant premium to the matching account (or hold it until you register
or sign in with that same address) and to avoid crediting the same
donation twice.
That donation record is kept separately from your account — it is
matched by email, not by account id — and, unlike the rest of your
data, is not automatically deleted if you delete your account, since
we also rely on it as our own record of what was donated. Write to
us if you would like it removed as well.
5. Where your data is stored
Account and statistics data is hosted on Supabase's infrastructure
in the EU (Ireland). Supabase acts as our data processor under
Article 28 GDPR; details of their own processing and subprocessors
are in Supabase's privacy policy.
Donations are processed by Ko-fi — see
Ko-fi's privacy policy.
6. Legal basis
Local statistics and preferences involve no processing of personal
data by us at all — they never leave your device. Account data is
processed on the basis of your consent, given by registering, and to
provide the service you asked for (Art. 6(1)(a) and (b) GDPR).
Donation records are kept on the basis of our legitimate interest in
granting and accounting for what was donated (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
7. How long data is kept
Account data is kept for as long as the account exists. You can
clear all recorded statistics — on this device and, if signed in, on
your account — at any time from the account panel. You can delete
your account entirely, at any time, from the same panel: this
erases your email, password and synced statistics immediately and
cannot be undone. Statistics kept only on your device are not
affected by deleting an account, since they were never sent to it.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to: give you a copy of your data,
correct it, erase it, restrict or object to its processing, or
receive it in a portable format. For account data, the fastest way
to exercise access and erasure is directly in the app — the account
panel shows what's on your account, and deleting it removes
everything at once. For anything else, or for the donation record in
§4, write to
frondapaolodeveloper@gmail.com.
You can also lodge a complaint with your national data protection
authority — in Italy, the
Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
9. Changes to this policy
If what the app collects changes, this page changes with it and the
date at the top is updated. Guitar Tools is open source; the history
of this file is part of the project's own repository.
Informativa sulla privacy
Ultimo aggiornamento: 3 agosto 2026.
2. Usare l'app senza un account
Nessuno dei quattro esercizi richiede un account. Le statistiche di
pratica (tentativi, risposte corrette e sbagliate, tempi di
chiesto né conservato altro — nessun nome, nessun indirizzo, nessun
donazione.
Questo record della donazione è conservato separatamente
dall'account — è associato all'email, non all'id dell'account — e, a
Supabase nell'UE (Irlanda). Supabase agisce come nostro responsabile
del trattamento ai sensi dell'art. 28 GDPR; i dettagli del loro
trattamento e dei loro subresponsabili sono nella
informativa privacy di Supabase.
Le donazioni sono elaborate da Ko-fi — vedi
l'informativa privacy di Ko-fi.
6. Base giuridica
6(1)(a) e (b) GDPR). Il record delle donazioni è conservato sulla
base del nostro legittimo interesse a concedere e rendicontare
quanto donato (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
7. Per quanto tempo conserviamo i dati
I dati dell'account sono conservati finché l'account esiste. Puoi
8. I tuoi diritti
data in cima viene aggiornata.
